OK so today I'm going to write about the album Since I Left You by The Avalanches. The Avalanches are an Australian DJ collective that piece together samples that range from Madonna bass lines to sound bytes from a John Waters flick. Their album Since I Left You is like an album that you would send to another planet to teach aliens about what a great pop album should sound like. I guess it just goes to show that great DJ's and a sampler can create some really awesome songs.

here is one of them

OK so today I'm going to talk about Pavement. Pavement was an awesome Lo-Fi group that really is one of those bands that I wish were more uh y'know "known about" in the world I mean I wish they were more recognized as the best band of the 90's cuz really they are THE BEST FREAKING BAND OF THE 90'S. So one of the things that makes them awesome is the album names. Like, who would think up the name 'Slanted And Enchanted","Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" or "Terror Twilight"? Also their original drummer liked to hand out free cabbages before shows! How cool is that? So if you have ever heard a Wilco album or a Weezer album just know that they pretty much stole everything from Pavement. So if you every get around to getting a Pavement record which you HAVE to do, I recommend Slanted And Enchanted which is they're first album that still holds up as a perfect record. So I can't say much about Pavement because a lot of their stuff is to awesome for words so here is a clip of the song "Cut Your Hair". CLICK HERE

OK so today I'm going to talk about the Pixies album Sufer Rosa. Surfer Rosa is probably one of the best things you will hear in alt rock. This is an ageless masterpiece that belongs in everyone's record collection. The first track on the album is this AWESOME song called Bone Machine and I have no idea what it's about Then you hear the like super apocalyptic rocker called Break My Body which is like one of the best songs on there. But THEN you hear this awesome like one minute forty five second growling master work of hardcore angst called Something Against You you also get Broken Face which is also in the same hardcore punk vein. THEN you get this beautiful love song sung by the bassist Kim Deal and the melodic minimalism of the next track Where Is My Mind?. And after that you get the hyperactive rocker Oh My Golly and the Spanish freak out Vamos. You then get some more Pixies greatness with I'm Amazed and Tony's Theme and the Album closes with the divine guitar melodies of Brick Is Red. So there you have it. The best alt rock album of all time and I give a ten out of ten. Essential.

OK so today I'm going to talk about the DNA album/comp DNA On DNA. This is one of those records that sounds like nothing you've ever heard before but at the same time sounds like it's incorporating every genre that you've ever heard. It pretty much gathers some B-sides and all the tracks from the No New York comp that was produced by Brian Eno as well as some other tracks from stray 7 inches and such. This album pretty much sums up the entire No Wave movement that gripped New York in the mid 70's. The music incorporates Dub,Free Jazz,Noise and other genres that are completely reinvented from scratch that make one of the most compelling and rewarding listens in the music universe.

OK so today I'm going to write about the Nirvana album Live At Reading. Live At Reading in my opinion is the best Nirvana album EVER for multiple reasons. For one thing it has some really good songs from Bleach made better from the Explosive drumming of the great Dave Grohl who did not play on the Bleach record which made the album considerably less powerful. It also had Nirvana at the height of it's powers as shown on the version of Lithium which has the audience singing along in a super burst of awesomeness. Probably one of my Favorite songs on the album is the cover of the Fang song The Money Will Roll Right In. So this is one of the greatest live albums of all time and if you like Nirvana it's an essential purchase.

Friday, July 1, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about Proto Punk. Proto Punk and Garage Rock was a music movement in the sixties that pretty much started punk rock with bands like MC5 and The Music Machine and The Stooges. Proto Punk really does not have a certain style of music but it is classified as influencing later punk bands such as the Clash and The Sex Pistols. A really good example of Proto Punk is The Music Machine song "Talk Talk". Proto Punk is super awesome in many ways so you should like totally check it out.

Sunday, June 26, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about the can record Ege Bamyasi. Can's 1972 album is a bit like the younger brother of their gargantuan double album Tago Mago mostly because recordings were halted due to intensive chess matches between keyboardist Irmin Schmidt and singer Damo Suzuki which led to songs being recorded practically in real time reducing it to a mere 39 minutes. But in my opinion it has some of the best can songs ever on it like "I'm So Green" and "Soup" and of course "Vitamin C". So after Ege Bamyasi they made Future Days which was kind of a last hurrah from the classic Damo era of can because he then married his girlfriend and became a Jehovah's Witness(?!). So Ege Bamyasi is one of the great German albums and is essential to anyone who likes music.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Alright so today I'm going to write about Public Image LTD. Public Image LTD (or PiL) is a Post Punk band/company fronted by John Lydon formerly from the Sex Pistols. The name came from the novel "The Public Image" by Muriel Spark. Personally I like their earlier stuff better than their newer stuff so I recommend you start at their first album which is a super awesome album because nirvana was really influenced by that album. So I guess that's all I have to say so bye.

Friday, June 3, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about Fugazi. Fugazi is an awesome punk band fronted by Ian mackaye and guy picciotto. Fugazi formed in 1986 and released their first EP in 1988 and are currently on a permanent hiatus. Ian Mackaye was also from Minor threat which was a super awesome by the way and Guy Piccotto was from Rites Of Spring which was also super duper awesome. So Fugazi is awesome I recomend the album 13 song which was a LP of their first two EP's. So check out fugazi of course and bye.

Thursday, May 26, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about No Wave. No Wave was one of noise rock's most important movements of all time and is an essential bit in the history of sound. No Wave bands like DNA and Mars incorporated many  kinds of music in their work like Industrial, Experimental and World. No Wave was born in New York City around the same time Punk Rock was in its embryonic stage with bands like Teenage Jesus And The Jerks and Swans. these bands (especially Swans) live were known to be very chaotic and loud. An infamous Swans show in London was so loud that there were instances of vomiting and fainting from the crowd as well as it being extremely hot in there because singer/chanter Micheal Gira turned of all the air conditioning in the building. So No Wave might not be your cup of tea but you have to acknowledge it's importance and influence on the modern music world.

Swans

hello. Today I'm going to write about Weezer. Weezer was one of the more popular post Nirvana alternative rock bands and for some reason was scorned by critics even though they were awesome. So I'm seeing weezer live and I can't wait they are going to play "The blue album" which is like their best one. Darn I can't think of anything to write ummmmmmmmm so I'm seeing them live in june....yep I'm also seeing primus. So ummmmmmmmmmmmm check Weezer out ok um bye.

Friday, May 13, 2011

10 I got a neat wallet made of Tyvek

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about Frank Black. Frank Black is an awesome human being he is so awesome he will explode your braaaiiiinn. So he was born Charles Thomson and then changed his name to black francis and then changed his name to frank black. So I've heard "teenager of the year" is a good album so get that now. Sorry for lazy post I just deleted the first one I did so here is a Pixies song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQgIOUwVZ1w

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about Can. Can is/was a Prog/Experimental band but they are NOT Krautrock!!!!!! They formed on 1969 or 8 whatever but they are known now for being 20 years ahead of all the other music out there which is pretty darn cool. So I really want to get their album Tago Mago but I also want Ege Bamyasi maybe I will just get both LOL. So I was lazy so sorry for the short post but seriously check Can out.

can video

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk the wipers. The Wipers were a punk/proto grunge band from portland OR. They formed in 1977 and released their first single "Better Of Dead" the following year. In my opinion The Wipers are one of the most underrated bands of the 80's and 90's and should be recognized as trailblazers of grunge and the Seattle scene (even though they weren't from Seattle Kurt Cobain cited them as a big influence on his music and he even covered one of their songs). Greg Sage the guitarist and singer says that he thrives in his obscurity because he gets to do whatever he wants with no pressure from major record labels which I think is pretty cool. Anyways here is a video of nirvana doing the Wipers song D-7. Enjoy!

Today I am very angry because facebook is deciding to be a complete poopy head and not let me log in to facebook on this computer. I am very angry >:( but it's not all bad because I can still get into my twitter but its pissing me off. So I'm gonna stop whining and talk about the MEAT PUPPETS!!!!!! YAAAAAY!!. So The Meat Puppets are a long lived alt rock/alt punk/alt country band that has influenced many bands like Nirvana. They are really awesome. I saw them live once and I was like 8). So I've heard you should get "Meat Puppets 2" if you are just starting on them so do that please.

here is a Meat Puppets video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEuWE_pm5O4

Thursday, March 31, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about The Office. The Office is the best TV show ever. I like it because it's really really really really reallyreally really really really reallyreally really really really reallyreally really really really reallyreally really really really reallyreally really really really reallyreally really really really really funny and awesome. My favorite character is probably Michel and Dwight (yes i like the american Office). But I really want season 7 to come out and its been like FOREVER so YUP ok watch it now bye.

Thursday, March 24, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about a movie I saw called the runaways. the runaways is a movie that's based of the influential all girl punk rock band that has Kristin Stewart in it. It's kinda good some kinda bad acting in it but overall its pretty entertaining. The best character played in it is probably Kim Fowley who is AWSOME and super funny and he steals every scene. So i recommend it to anyone who likes punk rock (like me).

Friday, March 18, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about Unstoppable Death Machines. Unstoppable Death Machines are a band I saw at SXSW and they were very very loud. They only have a bassist and a drummer and they are extremely skull crushingly loud. I liked them so much that i have a sticker on my guitar that says Unstoppable Death Machines. So i guess thats all bye.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqSMlGU_7-Y  I also saw these cool people

http://theunstoppabledeathmachines.net/ web site

Monday, March 14, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about some of my favorite albums.

1. Nirvana unplugged  in new york by nirvana. One of the best live albums ever recorded

2. .Pixies surfer rosa. this is pure perfection. no song on this record is bad

3. nirvana in utero their best non live record

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about Negativland. Negativland is a sound collage group from Contra Costa County. They are really weird but are extremely funny sometimes. My fav album of theres is Escape From Noise. I highly recomend that one. So I guess thats all I have to say about them so bye.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about what I'd do and what would it be like if didn't have to do school work. It would be freaking awesome. I would watch youtube videos all day and play outside. There would be no obligations and I would have the time of my freakin' life. So I guess thats what I would do so bye.

Thursday, February 17, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about the times I broke the law.

I once defaced a dime by cutting it up with wire cutters like 4 years ago....I still have it :(.

I once shoplifted one of my stuffed animals that my mom had given away to a goodwill. Shame on me.

OK I'm pretty sure thats all the times I broke the law (probably).

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about some of my biggest fears.

1. Having an urge to eat chap stick. I mean you never know when you just start wanting to eat chapstick i mean it SMELLS realy good but I've heard it can give you a serious tummy ache.

2. bees. Bee stings hurt but they make delicious honey.

3. Exploding. It would suck to explode.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about grunge. grunge was started by bands like the melvins and mudhoney and popularized by nirvana. grunge people liked to dress in torn jeans flannel and chuck taylors. grunge is the best music ever in case you needed reminding.

Good example of grunge

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about Half Japanese. No one really knows about Half Japanese but I know about them and I like them very much. they did not know how to play a single note on their instruments when they formed but made great music all the same. They are part of the outsider genre which is music like The Residents,Daniel Johnston and Roky Erickson. They are pretty unique I can kinda compare them to Daniel Johnston, one of the members Jad Fair made an album with Johnston believe it or not. So you probably wont like Half Japanese but if you do you have my respect good sir.

Thursday, February 3, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about DERP. Derp is one of my new favorite words because It was first said on one of my favorite shows (South Park). But anyways It's also very fun to say: "DERP!" and you can also call someone a derp "you derp!". It started when South Park had the character "Mr. Derp" how banged himself on the head with a hammer and shouted "DERRRRP!". Make sure you use this word as much as possible.

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

OK so today I'm going to write about one of my favorite genres. My favorite genre is probably grunge/early alternative rock because it has some of my favorite bands in it like Primus,Pixies and Nirvana. Alt rock and Grunge came out of bands like Pixies which deeply influenced Nirvana and many others. Kurt Cobain even admitted that he was trying to write a Pixies song when he wrote "Smells Like Teen Spirit". So its not like I don't like any other genres, I adore punk/hardcore bands like Bad Brains and The Minutemen and I also like my share of metal like Lamb Of God and System Of A Down. So I don't think that just because you're a punk doesn't mean you shouldn't like The Beatles or Yes or Led Zeppelin or whatever. So thats just what I think and bye.

Thursday, January 27, 2011

OK so these are my top ten pixies songs that are better than Where Is Mind?. So we all know Where Is My Mind? is a great song (you can find it HERE) Its A wonderful candy-like song but In my opinion ever since Fight Club its kinda like teen spirit all over. Its like "OOOOOHHH HERP DERP WHERE IS MY MIND IS LIKE TOTES THIS BEST PIXES SONG CUZ IT WAHZ IN FIGHT CLUB! HERP DERP DERP" thats exactly how it is (kind of).

1.SOMETHING AGAINST YOU

2. HEY

3. VAMOS

4. U-MASS

5. I'VE BEEN TIRED

6. WAVE OF MUTILATION(UK SURF)

7. CARIBOU

8. IN HEAVEN (LADY IN THE RADIATOR SONG)

9. CRACKITY JONES

10. MONKEY GONE TO HEAVEN

Monday, January 24, 2011

OK so today I'm going to do a little yelp style review of my favorite record store Waterloo Records. So the staff is REALLY friendly and they can find anything, they seem like they've been working there for years and years which probably isn't unlikely. The layout is extremely convenient and I like how they mix new and used copies so its easier to find stuff. I also like how its located conveniently near my other favorite record store Cheapo Disks and near my local whole foods so you can have a close place to lunch at. They have a cool LP/45 section too. So this is a great place and i recommend it.

Monday, January 17, 2011

SO today I'm going to write about Nirvana. So these guys are like by new fav band they rock \m/. they started in 1987 and made there first album in like  1989 called bleach. A cool thing is that they had PAT SMEAR  (from the GERMS!) on live guitar which I think rules. So nirvanas awesome check em out.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

OK so today I'm going to talk about an article I read in a magazine. Its about octopuses, (octopi??) and how they're extremely smart. So I read that this octopus kept escaping from his aquarium by lifting up the lid and crawling out.  So the curators installed a lock so he couldn't get out. But  the octopus was able to lift one of his tentacles out of one of the very small holes in the lid for oxygen and unlatch the lock but he didn't escape. I think it's cool that he knew what to do with the lock and everything too. I guess that's all and bye.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

OK so I know it's a little late for this, but here are some of my fav Christmas presents. So my #1 is probably my Bugera V22. Its a great amp and it has really good bass and reverb. I also really like my internet radio alarm clock. It's really cool because you can play stations from all around the world and stuff. My fav station is "Beatles a rama". So I guess that's it bye.

Monday, January 10, 2011

MAN I have not done a post for like four weeks sorry guys. I'm not really sure what I want to write about today hmmmmmmmmm. I guess I'll write about The Flaming Lips. I recently got into these guys when i watched a cool documentary about them then i bought their album "The Soft Bulletin" and I was blown away. So they formed in the early 80's with deep influence from the Butthole Surfers. They received pretty much no recognition from the masses until they scored a minor hit with "She Don't Use Jelly". They also made a really weird flick called "Christmas On Mars".
So I don't know THAT much about them but I felt like writing about them anyway  so bye.
